Let’s talk about drunk driving for just a moment.

Let’s talk about drunk driving for just a moment. Actually, let’s talk about why there are laws specifically targeted to people who have more than one DUI on their record. Why would they be allowed to get another one if they have already had one? If someone is caught driving drunk they should be strung up for all the world to see and…..well, maybe not that bad. Anyway there is the coolest contraption that can be placed into the cars of people who have been picked up for driving drunk. I want to know why people are not required to have this contraption in their cars after their first DUI. Now, I know that not everyone who has ever had a DUI will ultimately have another one, but most do. I would really agree to a law that states that after the first DUI they have to use the contraption for say a year or eighteen months. Then, if they do not have another drunken driving incident, they could be free from it. Actually though, if they had that contraption they couldn’t drink and drive. The contraption is geared to not let the car start if the person blows a certain blood-alcohol percentage. Not that this one act would keep us from seeing on the news that someone had, yet again, been killed by a drunk driver. But it would sure slow the traffic down just a little, don’t you think? I am so sick of seeing people who kill others while driving drunk and then they walk away without a scratch. What’s worse is that nine times out of ten, these people have had at least one DUI before they drove drunk again and killed somebody. Why in the world can we not lock these people up? At least lock them up long enough to make them sober up. Honestly, if our court system continues to slap the wrists of alcoholics and drug addicts there may not be any of us clean people left in the future. Then they can just go around and kill each other. There may not be room left in the prisons for all of them, but they could take all that extra money from these outrageous gas prices and pay to have more prisons built. Better yet, they could lock them up at their own homes and never allow them to leave. That way they would have to pay for their own food, clothes, cigarettes and everything else that we need and maybe then our taxes would not be so high. It is really sad that the better a person lives the more money he has to pay to keep people in prison who have crossed the line their entire lives.
What is really sad is that all the money that goes into trials and jail time for the ones that actually do get caught could be going into something much more needed like stopping child abuse or feeding starving children. The next time that you decide to drive drunk, maybe you might want to think about the people and their families that you just may kill on your way to the next bar.
