Millions of people who are spending millions of dollars to lose weight.
The New Year is in full swing and along with it comes millions of people who are spending millions of dollars to lose weight. The diet industry has made a killing in the last three weeks alone. Why do people spend so much money to diet? Why are there diets anyway? Speaking from experience, here is a little secret that the world should know. All the pills, shakes, powders and potions in the world will not help you to lose weight and keep it off. The only thing that really works for weight loss is healthy eating and getting up from the sofa (or computer chair) and getting yourself some good old-fashioned exercise.
You see the headlines everyday. Slim-Fast helped so-and-so to lose 200 pounds or “Trim-Spa Baby” has changed someone’s life. This is such bull! Ok, these people probably did lose weight, but not by taking the miracle pill or mixing a shake twice a day. They lost weight because they stopped eating as much and started getting some exercise. Honestly, you would think that people would be smarter. Diet pills work because they make you eat less. DUH! Eating less will help you to lose weight. Duh again. So, why is it that people continue to support an industry that is full of more bull than a dairy farm? The reason is simple. People want a quick fix to everything. Microwaves are a quick fix to cooking. Dishwashers are a quick fix to cleaning. Everything has been boiled down to what is most simple and takes less time.
Well, here is a real eye opener. If you eat less and take a walk every now and then, you will be thinner and much healthier. Incidentally, taking diet pills will lead to a full blown heart attack at some point down the road. Is that what you want to be thin for? So that when you are lying in Intensive Care the nurses can all whisper about how great your body looks? I seriously don’t think that the cute doctor is going to hit on you with all those tubes running in and out of you, so save yourself a little trouble and just do it right in the first place.
Look over the food pyramid. Believe it or not that thing really works. Take a little time to familiarize yourself with fruits and vegetables. Eat them a lot. Cut down on the Twinkies, Doritos and other things that are filled with fat and learn to enjoy the simple things in life like apples and baby carrots. You might surprise yourself and really like the taste. After you fill up on food that is good for you, take a walk. Walk your dog or go to the park with your children. A little exercise really never killed anyone. Lack of it has killed thousands.
The simple truth is this: if you really want to lose weight and keep that weight off, plus live a much more healthy life, then eating healthy and exercising regularly are your best bet.
