Tata Nano - The People’s Car
For past 5 or 6 months the Indian motor industry is prospering heavily. The prosperity starts with Mr. Vijay Mallya’s undertaking of the Spyker Formula 1 motorcar team and renaming it as the team Force India. The second biggest thing that Indian motor industry offers is the launch of the Tata Nano. In fact, this car is started to be recognized as the ‘people’s car’ instead its formal name of ‘Nano’. Now, one should be amazed after hearing the price of the car. On Indian currency, the price of the car is exactly INR 100,000 (excluding the likes of VATS, FCIT, LT). In terms of currency of some other countries this car costs about US $2500, GB £1277, or € 1700 excluding the VAT, FCIT or the LT. When the whole world was waiting to see the car (because of its price and some political controversies related to it) it was launched on the 10th of January 2008 at the Pragati maiden of New Delhi (in occasion of 9th Auto Expo). This car will be manufactured and marketed by the Tata Motors.
This project was taken in long back 2003. Mr. Ratan Tata, who is the chairman of Tata Industries, had the dream provide a 4-wheeler car to each and every citizen. Now, Tata Motors have the target to manufacture about 250000 units of Tata Nano in annual basis, initially. The factory to manufacture the Tata Nano cars is built in Singur of West Bengal. In very short space it can be said that this car has 8% lesser exterior but almost 21% greater interior space inside of it if compared to the ‘Maruti 800’. The engine of the car is set in the rear portion of the car. The shown models are in color of red, yellow and silver.
Now, let us come to the technical specifications of the car. Basically, Tata Nano is a car of 33 PS power engine at 5500 rpm and it comes with a rear engine of 623 CC. The engine is also 2-cylinder petrol enabled along with the ‘multi-point fuel injection’ property. There are 2 valves per cylinder with the overhead camshaft. The compression ratio for the engine of the Tata Nano is 9:5:1 as confirmed. The ‘bore X stroke’ level in Tata Nano is ’73.5 X 73.5 mm.’. The torque of the engine is 48 N•m at 2500 rpm.
The top speed of this car is 105 km per hour. In terms of the acceleration, this car takes about 14 seconds to raise its speed from nil to 70 kilometer. This car can be considered as a fuel economic car. This car can run up to 20 kilometers without any sort of problem by the use of 1 liter of petrol. The petrol tank of the car can contain up to 30 liters of petrol at most. The front disc brake technology and the rear drum brake technology are used in this car. The rear suspension of this car is built after following the ‘independent coil spring’ technology. There are four 12 inches of wheel used in the Tata Nano.
It can be said that Tata Nano is the biggest gift of Indian motor industry to the whole world if the price is concerned.
